ACADEMIC AID, COUNSELLING AND LANGUAGE CLASSES

A large number of refugees, immigrants and undocumented refugees require academic aid in many forms. A large number of students arrive in Canada without the ability to provide documentation of their previous educational history, such as transcripts and academic evaluations. Academic equalization is required in conjunction with counselling in order to ensure a smooth transition. We will be offering IELTS training, and French classes, one-on-one tutoring, tutoring classes, academic equalization services as well as English conversation classes. This will be offered to students of all ages, with the majority of work carried out by our interns and long-term academic counsellors.

In our efforts to help and empower newcomer students, we have created IELTS preparation classes to help students better prepare for their English Proficiency test and have an easier time getting admitted to university or get employed. Here are some information to know before signing up:

  • You must correspond to one of these criteria: you are a refugee/asylum seeker OR a new immigrant OR a student at Concordia. If you do not correspond to one of these criteria, you cannot sign up for classes.

  • These are not English classes. They are preparation classes for the IELTS exam. Subsequently, participants must already have a knowledge of English and have the intention to enroll in university.

  • You must submit a deposit of 40$, on the first day of class. This will guarantee your place in the class. You will receive the money back at the end of classes ONLY IF you attend ALL classes (you are allowed to miss up to 2 classes only, explained below).

  • It is mandatory to attend all classes. You are allowed 2 unjustified absences. If you are absent more than twice, without a justification (doctor appointment, exam schedule...), you will be removed from classes and you will lose your 40$ deposit.

  • Only the people who have registered to classes with the form below BEFORE the deadline can attend classes. It is forbidden to bring friends or family without signing up.

  • All classes will be at the Refugee Centre: 1610 Sainte-Catherine Ouest suite 402, H3H 2S2, Montreal.

  • You have two options of schedule: Monday/Wednesday 5PM to 8PM or Tuesday/Thursday 5PM to 8PM. Only sign up to ONE of them, below.

  • There is a limit of 20 persons per class. Once the limit is reached, you will have to sign up to a waitinglist (the registration forms will close and the waitinglist form will appear automatically). Only when someone drops from one of the classes, you will have a chance to attend classes.

Registration for the winter session are closed.

Next registration will open on March 1st.
